London Fabric Shopping Trip
25th November 2018
On Friday 26th October five of us met at Chippenham station for our first fabric shopping trip to London!
We arrived at Paddington mid morning and headed straight to Joel & Son Fabrics in Marylebone. This is high end, by appointment to H M The Queen …but a real experience! Packed with beautiful fabrics of all types, but notably silks, wools, and cashmere. A feast for the eyes ad the purse but if you want something special and exclusive, this is the place. The staff know their stock and are very helpful but not pushy.
We stopped at a smaller shop on the way back to the tube, and I bought some fabulous silk. We headed then to Liberties – I think we all bought some Liberty print fabric, iconic patterns with a real broad range of prints but still very “Liberty”. Nice bags too!!
Next was around the corner to Berwick Street…The Cloth House, McCulloch & Wallis, The Silk Society….all quite different. I found some rich burgundy cord and satin lining here for an Autumn Jacket.
Finally we headed out to Goldhawk Road – we definitely left this too late as could have spent several more hours here!. Shop after shop of fabrics….good value prices and fun staff, who are ready to do a deal! The last shop we went in even gave us 5 lengths free- one for each of us to fight over !
A great day out , tiring but fulfilling. Feeding the need to actually see, feel and choose fabric and feel excited about all our future projects.
I will be planning another trip in 2019…. so subscribe to the newsletter if you want to be kept up to date on this and other events.
